May on the farm…

We have been busy getting ready for this season and our greenhouse are busting with plants waiting to get planted in the fields. But, so much rain!!! There has been standing water somewhere on the farm for the last 5 weeks. The cold wet spring has put us behind in our planting schedule but all we can do is wait and be patient until the ground dries enough to work the soil.

We still have spaces available in our CSA so please tell your family and friends. The membership form can be found here as well as pictures of what’s is a typical standard size box. We also have flower share available.

Here are some pictures from this spring.

Seeding and CSA sign up

Seeds are germinating in our makeshift kitchen seeding room while we wait for this unusual cool weather to leave. It’s supposed to be 40 degrees but today only reaching 13! Once we fire up the nursery greenhouse we will be madly seeding in order to catch up.

Many thanks to all who already signed up for our CSA. There are still spots available. I know it doesn’t look anything like spring looking out the window but the weather will turn soon. If you are thinking of joining our CSA we suggest you do it soon as spots are filling up.  Many thanks!

Late winter on the farm.

So much planning and plotting going on here lately as well as tax preparation and the beginnings of our organic certification papers. Many thanks to all who have reached out to us with your 2019 CSA membership. We are so grateful for each and every one of you. There is plenty of room to join our CSA this year. I will be sending out brochures next week!

This crazy weather has kept us on our toes. The schools were closed all last week and some of this week. The farm looks like a skating rink right now and we are having a hard time moving the water with our skimmer pumps because they keep freezing on us!

Here are a few pics. Remember you can follow us on Instagram by clicking on the right side of this page.

New look for this website and seed inventory and seed ordering!!

A new cleaner look for our website!

This site should be running way faster than in the past so the information should be easier to  access and its mobile friendly!  Many thanks to our dear friend Doug Berch (master dulcimer builder, fantastic musician, web created and all around fine human being).

Farm news:

As the temperatures fall below zero we are warm and cozy in the farmhouse working on our seed orders. First we brought all our seeds  inside and took a complete inventory of what we have on hand, also making a list of the new varieties we plan to grow this season. Now its time to cover the kitchen table with seed catalogs and get down to business. The flower plugs have been ordered and we will be growing 8 different colors of lisianthus this year.

The new 2019 Owosso Organics brochures are planned to be mailed the first week in February so look for those in your mailboxes. Remember if you want to join the CSA before you get a brochure you can go to the 2019 CSA membership form page, copy it off and mail it to the farm with your payment.

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up for the CSA; your support means a lot to us. I’m also working on a website dedicated to my photography. Hope to have that up and running in a week or so.

We are getting excited for this upcoming season and will soon be finishing our seed orders. Here are a few vegetable images to get you all thinking of the spring.

Remember you can follow me on Instagram by clicking the link on the right of the page. I post pictures almost daily!

Happy 2019

Many apologize for being so very absent from these pages. One of my New Years resolutions is to commit to being more present here and letting everyone know what all is happening on the farm! Remember you can follow me on Instagram my clicking to the right side of this blog post where I post a picture almost daily mostly of the farm.

The holidays are winding down and we are making plans for this upcoming season. The seed catalogs are piling up and we are doing some crop planning with our CSA and farm markets in mind. In the next few weeks Ill have the 2019 CSA Membership here and folks can fill it out and mail it to the farm to be members of our 2019 CSA. (I know thats very analog i.e. snail mail etc but for now thats how we roll.)

Here are some pics I’ve taken lately. Happy New Year to everyone!

2018 CSA Membership form is up!!

The farming season is fast approaching and we have been busy with tons of planning, ordering and field designs. The top of our kitchen table has been covered with seed catalogs for most of the month as we finalize our plans for bringing you the freshest vegetables and flowers possible.

Our CSA is open and the membership form is here on the 2018 Membership form page! We would love to have you be part of our farm family this summer and grow veggies and flowers for your family. Options for pick up are either on the farm in Owosso or for Okemos/ East Lansing folks at our pick up site 5151 Marsh Rd the site of the Meridian Farmers Market. Pick up is on Mondays from 5:00-6:00PM.

We have two sizes shares available. A standard share feeds a family of two and a premium share feeds a family of four or a vegetable loving family of two who may want to can or freeze their extra produce. Also don’t forget a flower share; a big beautiful bouquet of seasonal flowers available for you when you pick up your veggies.

We hope you check out our CSA and we invite you to join in this sustainable farmer to consumer relationship. Thank you!

Here are some pictures I have taken over the last few weeks. Follow me on instagram for daily images of our farm life. Look for the link on the right side of this page.

Ordering Seeds

We have been busy this week doing seed research, preliminary crop planning and pouring through seed catalogs making plans for the spring. Thanks to everyone who gave us feedback from a Facebook post about what you would like to see in your CSA box/ on our market tables. We take your words to heart.

Later this week I will have the 2018 CSA membership form here on the website. It’s kind of low tech in that you have to copy it off, fill it out and mail it to the farm. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I ordered the lisianthus this week and we will be growing 9 colors again.  I’m pretty excited about a few new ones. Any flower designers that want to buy our bulk flowers this summer just get in touch and let me know what you want us to grow.

Stay warm everyone.

Another Test Post to see if you can see this on Face book!!!

We are working out some bugs! Hoping this will post on Facebook. Thanks for your patience folks!
